Barbecue Tools

Cooking on a barbeque grill is more dangerous than most cooking methods and requires specialized barbeque tools. There is intense heat that is not insulated from the cook. An oven door keeps heat from escaping an oven, allowing the food to cook faster by trapping in the heat and also protects the cook from the heat of the oven.

A barbeque grill has none of this insulation and is not designed to trap heat like an oven. Since so much heat can escape, it is necessary to have higher temperatures to cook food at the same rate. The higher temperatures that are exposed to the chef have turned regular cooking tools into specialized barbeque tools that allow food to be altered from much further away, where it is impossible to get burned.

Most barbeque tools have very long handles to allow the cook to manipulate, flip and rotate the food on the grill from a safe distance. This protects the chef’s hands from getting burned. Cooking on a barbeque is often done away from a kitchen, so access to a number of tools is impossible. This has led most barbeque tools to be multi-function devices that incorporate spatulas, tongs, blades and bottle openers into one functional unit.
