Barbecue Pit

For people that barbeque throughout the summer or even all year, or as their profession, a barbeque pit is the best way to grill. They used to be very popular in the fifties, many people built them from scratch in their own backyards, but they have slowly waned in popularity and for a while were only used occasionally, or in large barbeque restaurants and grills.

Barbeque pits are slowly gaining in popularity again for a number of reasons. Building one is a fun project that can be taken on with no experience at all. Simple instructions can be found online, and supplies can be found at any hardware store. Most are made from brick because it is cheap, heat resistant and easy for anyone to stack and arrange. Metal is increasingly being used as well, but requires some welding and cutting for best results.

A barbeque pit can be used any time of the year and with many types of fuels. Wood and charcoal are the easiest to use but require regular cleaning of ash and soot to keep them beautiful. A gas grill is more difficult to build from scratch, and is only useful when there is plenty of gas available and requires more intricate pieces and processes than a wood burner. A wood burning pit grill can easily include a smoker as well to flavor, smoke and dry meats.
